5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is set in a community center somewhere in middle American in 1956. The widows of the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein meet in a renovated community center for their annual breakfast, where the prize-winning quiche will be declared in a much-anticipated ceremony. The sudden threat of an atomic bomb forces the women in this idyllic American town to begin sharing their deepest secrets, which lead to some not-so-shocking confessions from the society’s leaders.

Season of Lights Holiday Benefit Concert ~ A Celebration of commUNITY and Peace The annual Season of Lights Holiday Concert is scheduled for Saturday, December 13th, 7:00 p.m. in St. Anne's Chapel at beautiful Marylhurst University. Now in its seventh year, Peter Zisa and Friends’ free Season of Lights (SOL) concert has become an anticipated community tradition which provides a meaningful and unifying celebration of the holiday season that all members of the community can enjoy. Drawing from the four corners of the Portland metro, the program’s performers represent a collage of the cultural and faith traditions of the community.
Appearing on this year's program are La Rhonda Steele, Portland's premier gospel singer and director of the Portland Interfaith Gospel Choir, talented singer-songwriter Ilene Safyan & Chaverim performing an wonderful eclectic blend of Jewish music (Sephardic and Ashkenaz), the beautifully creative guitar compositions of John Dodge, an effervescent performance of Brazilian choros by guitarist Maria Olaya, colorful Slavic melodies performed by violin virtuoso Tatiana Kolchanova, the delicate and euphonious tones of flutist LeeAnn McKenna and Yukiko Yamaguchi (koto, Japanese harp) of the celebrated world music ensemble Thousand
Waves, and Peter Zisa himself, acclaimed classical guitarist and disciple of Spanish guitar legend Andres Segovia. While admission is free, in the spirit of unity and goodwill, SOL invites all attendees to give generously in support of two worthy and extraordinary non-profit organizations: the Community Transitional School, an independent non-profit school that serves K-8th grade children whose families are homeless. And Tivnu: Building Justice, a non-profit youth organization that builds homes for the homeless in coordination with Habitat for Humanity. "Tivnu: Building Justice is a non-profit organization that addresses the fulfillment of basic human needs through Jewish learning, leadership development, and hands-on social justice work."

The supple, ringing guitars of Johnny Marr helped establish the Smiths among the most acclaimed and enduring bands of the 1980s. Born John Maher in Manchester, England, on October 31, 1963, he played in such little-known groups as Sister Ray and Freaky Party before forming the Smiths with singer Morrissey in 1982. In the years to follow they emerged among Britain's most successful acts, but in 1987, following sessions for the LP Strangeways, Here We Come, Marr dissolved the group, claiming their musical approach had gone stale.
In the wake of the Smiths' demise, he made cameo appearances on records by the likes of Talking Heads and Kirsty MacColl before joining Matt Johnson's The The for 1989's Mind Bomb. Marr also teamed with New Order's Bernard Sumner and Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant in the alternative supergroup Electronic, scoring a hit with the single "Getting Away With It." Apart from a handful of guest appearances, he kept a relatively low profile during the 1990s, most notably lending his talents to The The's 1993 effort Dusk and Electronic's long-awaited sophomore record, 1996's Raise the Pressure.
Marr returned to music three years later on Electronic's third album, Twisted Tenderness, which wasn't released in the U.S. until fall 2000. He also spent time working with his new band, the Healers, playing dates across England. The next few years saw a time of redefinition and reflection for Marr. He finally assembled his Healers with ex-Kula Shaker bass man Alonza Bevan and Ringo Starr's drumming son, Zak Starkey, in 2002; a deal with ARTISTdirect's iMusic followed before the end of the year. Fans of this legendary guitarist were treated to Marr's proper singing debut in early 2003 with the release of Boomslang. In 2007 Marr appeared on the Washington band Modest Mouse's album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, and toured with them as a member.

citizens are rich in culture, even if they're materially poor, huddling together for warmth and entertainment as the electricity flickers on and off.
Of course, if you subscribe to the old say that the future is already here but not evenly distributed, you might see that as the world that Hooded Fang are in now, exercising their
community spirit while hanging out in the wasteland with impromptu streetcorner boozebag singalongs and sweaty, claustrophobic basement shows.
With a stable lineup, the band has returned to the studio with increased coherence and confidence. Gravez is a logical progression from Tosta Mista's bold step sideways, presenting a live-off-the-floor feel that's scrappy and direct but without too many layers of gunk, finding a balance that's like The Feelies' version of Alien Lanes. Mixing together home recordings with the results of some time spent at Ian Gomes' Crawford Street Recording Co., the album contains its share of sock-hop summer jams and ends with the lean, groovy "Genes", which just might be pointing the way ahead to the next phase.
Emerging fully-formed from the desolate heart of Central Florida,
Roadkill Ghost Choir make unsettling, powerful American rock, Tom Petty
by way of Radiohead and Cormac McCarthy. Set against Kiffy Meyer’s
ghostly steel pedal, singer and main songwriter Andrew Shepard
triumphantly conjures an allegorical American landscape of drifters,
specters and violent saints. Andrew’s brothers Maxx (drums) and Zach
(bass) Shepard round out the rhythm section, and Stephen Garza handles
lead guitar.
The band released their debut EP ‘Quiet Light’ in 2013 in the midst of a
touring run that saw them opening for Band of Horses and 2013 festival
slots at New York’s Governor’s Ball, Austin City Limits and Shaky Knees
in Atlanta, GA. In January 2014 the band was invited to perform on the
David Letterman Show, where they performed standout track “Beggar’s
Guild.” Their debut full-length, recorded in Athens, Georgia and in
their home studio in Deland, Florida with producer Doug Boehm, will be
out later this year.

Thee Oh Sees are a band from San Francisco, California, USA. The group began as an outlet for John Dwyer to release his instrumental, experimental home recordings, and over the course of several albums evolved into a full band. The band is noted for both its prolific album releases, energetic live shows, and their whimsical visual aesthetic that juxtaposes cartoon imagery and horror.
The two met in the Summer of 2011 when Takako saw Dustin play in Tokyo. He was a fan of her music from the past, and through that meeting they began corresponding. They found many similar interests in music, the universe and mythology. When Dustin was in Japan they went into an hourly rehearsal studio to do some loose musical improvisations, which lead to a natural collaboration. Toropical Circle is the result of that collaboration and was produced and recorded by Wong and Minekawa at home in Toyko.
The music strikes a lovely balance of homemade coziness, experimentation and charming humor. Their musicality and human qualities galvanized into something brilliantly heartwarming. Dustin Wong’s minimal-yet-imaginative sounds combined with Takako Minekawa’s graceful and eloquent voice, samples, drum machines and keyboards resulted in a colorful and fantastic world. The sounds roll and change organically, gently taking the listener by the hand through a forest and to the sea.
Alvvays are two women, three men, a crate of C-86 tapes and a love of jingle-jangle. Convening in Toronto, the group have been making music since since dusk or maybe dawn, when stars were appearing or fading off. As a result, their debut self-titled album is both sun-splashed and twilit—nine songs concealing drunkenness, defeat and death in tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass. The resultant album is loud and clear and sure. Flood your ears.
