XRAY.FM’s Everyday Mixtapes presents:
Mic Capes Music // OCnotes // DoNormaal
A night of Northwest R&B + Hip Hop with up-and-comers OC Notes and DoNormaal of Seattle and Portland’s own Mic Capes. Thursday, June 29th at The Liquor Store. Live DJ sets upstairs by DJ Danyak and Shira and Jené of Everyday Mixtapes (Saturdays 2-3pm on XRAY.FM). A stacked line up of experimental hip hop, electronic, R&B, and everything in between.
$10 at the door | Show at 9pm
Mic Capes Music (https://miccapesmusic.bandcamp.com/) is a prolific hip hop artist from Portland, OR. Capes is known for having vivid story telling ability, raw lyricism, and thought provoking social commentary as key components of his music while at the same time making it all very palatable. He released his debut solo album "Rise & Grind" in 2012 and made a huge impact on the local hip hop scene. In September of 2016 he solidified his prowess as an upper tier artist dropping his critically acclaimed album "Concrete Dreams", which was voted the number one Hip Hop Album to come out of Portland, Oregon by Willamette Week as well as mention in The Oregonian for having one of the top 10 albums of 2016.
OCnotes (https://ocnotes.bandcamp.com/) was born in the Southwest & raised in the World. His music & art has been exhibited in museums, featured in movies & on television. He was nominated for a 2015 Stranger Genius Award in Seattle, Washington.
"His solo work and collaborations with Shabazz Palaces, THEESatisfaction, Erik Blood, & many many others have made him a favorite of the Emerald City’s most forward-listening.”
Along with an enormous self released catalog, OCnotes recently signed with Secret Angels Records, founded by Seven Davis Jr. in Los Angeles, & has numerous releases with Homeskillet Records founded by Silver Jackson.
DoNormaal (https://soundcloud.com/donormaal/) is a Californian vocalist and hip hop artist living in Seattle whose hypnotic 2015 debut LP, Jump or Die, was noted for its trance-like, down-tempo rhythms and slick, fluid poetry. She experiments in morbid, emotional, prayer. Her style is genre-bending with many different influences, but heavily rooted in Hip Hop & Rap. Most recently, DoNormaal has performed alongside Princess Nokia and Seattle’s Upstream Music Festival.
Ali Muhareb's Mujahedeen has come pretty far over the past few years. What started out as a solo project has since brought in more members and completely revamped its sound. Muhareb's vision began as a reverb-heavy outburst of electronic noise, but has since transitioned into jazzier psych territory. It also experiments with post-hardcore that’s as emotive as Mewithoutyou, with much groovier rhythms than Jawbox.

Máscaras, comprised of three Portland music scene veterans (members of Sun Angle, Deer or the Doe, O Bruxo, Cat Hoch, Paper/Upper/Cuts, and literally dozens of others), is what happens when an off-the-cuff jam session between friends really, really works. Even in its recorded form, “it’s a jam with themes that live and breathe,” the band says, “leaving room for the unexpected.” The trio, comprised of Papi Fimbres (drums), Theo Craig (bass), and Carlos Segovia (guitar), plays heavy, propellant psychedelic music with surf-rock twang and mathy sensibilities. They call it “maximalist indigenous psych,” and while it’s not exactly the kind of music that one would normally identify with Portland—these are, after all, three brown dudes in the whitest city in America—they have become local favorites since their low-key formation in 2013, placing in the top 3 of Willamette Week’s prestigious annual Best New Band Poll.
Jo Passed is an emergent project by songwriter/vocalist/producer/multi-instrumentalist, Joseph Hirabayashi. Joseph formerly played in Vancouver based neo-psychedelic band Sprïng, which formed out of the disbanding of pronk experimental punk band, SSRIs. Jo Passed is always on tour, look for shows.

It's time to debate rent control in Portland!
In response to the housing crisis, the state legislature is considering lifting the statewide ban on rent control, and members of Portland's City Council are openly discussing what rent control might look like in our city. We need more public discussion of this important and controversial set of policies that will shape housing in the city and the state for decades to come.
XRAY.FM and the advocacy group Portland Forward are hosting a spirited debate between advocates on both sides of the issue: Economist Dr. Gerard Mildner of the PSU School of Business Administration and Margot Black, an organizer with Portland Tenants United. Jefferson Smith of XRAY in the Morning will be moderating the debate and the whole conversation will be recorded live for future airing on XRAY.FM and KXRW Vancouver.
Come participate in democracy!
This event is ALL AGES (alcohol will still be sold, don't worry)
Tickets are $7 (all fees included) and proceeds go to XRAY.FM
A percentage of Dig a Pony's proceeds ALL NIGHT will go to XRAY.FM's Spring Fund Drive.

6-7pm Chor Bazaar w/ DJs Anjali & The Incredible Kid
7-8pm Circa Rad w/ DJ Tex
8-9pm The Denim Dinner Party w/ DJ Ramophone
9-10pm Songs From Under the Floorboard w/ DJ Dave Cantrell
Then a mix of XRAY DJs for the rest of the night!

Nina’s Starry Night is a night to have fun, dance, be with friends and raise money for an important cause. All proceeds from the night go directly to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund, an organization whose mission is to find effective treatments and a cure for Fanconi anemia and to provide education and support services to affected families worldwide.
Nina’s Starry Night is organized in memory of Nina who died from complications of Fanconi anemia when she was three and a half. This year she would turn fourteen years old. We miss her dearly. But she has many friends who are still living with this disease, and Nina’s Starry Night is also for them. We raise money so that they can live longer, healthier lives, and so that one day there will be a cure.
